The pedagogy of Lifegame

In the national curriculum learning is understood as individual and collective processes of gathering knowledge and skills. It emphasises that in addition to new information and skills, methods of learning and working must be studied.

On working methods, the curriculum states that these are to develop the skills of learning, thinking and problem solving, as well as working and social abilities and active participating.

Lifegame offers teachers the opportunity to present many everyday phenomena and choices, and to consider their ramifications. The game is suitable for upper level primary school students who already have an ability for conceptual thinking. It can also be used as support tool in high school health education.

Although the script of Lifegame aims to be entertaining, the situations included are drawn from every day life and handle a variety of solutions related to everyone?s experience of growing up and development. Lifegame can be played alone, but the best way to gain understanding, comprehension and empathy toward others is through discussion and joint deliberation. Because the game does no offer right answers, learners have to deliberate on the importance of the choices and their significance in relation to their own experiences, values and aims.
